Discipline

Hello Ladies,

Can you believe there are only four more months left in this year?!! As you may or may not know, the month of August will focus on discipline. This week, let us first define discipline. What is your definition of discipline? What are the things that require discipline as it pertains to your lifestyle? Please resist the urge to look up the actual definition of discipline. That will come sooner than you know. Instead, write the first thoughts that come to mind when you think of the word.

When I think of the word discipline or what it means to be a disciplined individual, I think that it means that one is unwavering in their decisions. Regardless if the circumstance or situation is difficult or challenging, a discipline individual is steadfast in their choice. In honesty, discipline does not give me warm fuzzies. I think it can be hard, strict, limiting, and inflicting. Sounds harsh doesn’t it? Well, it is honestly how I feel about it sometimes. Can you tell that I am one who does not operate with much discipline in my life? Or do I? My goal for this month is to transform my thinking about discipline. The reality is that I don’t know much about it. What about you?

  1. Discipline: Doing what needs to be done despite temptation. I really don't like being put in a position to judge you, but since you asked, I think it's a safe zone. I think you lack discipline, but you have the resources not to have to focus on disciplining yourself.
I think that I know discipline very well. Certain situations in my life has caused me to adopt and foster the principles of discipline.
One of the things that require discipline in my lifestyle is social media. A lot of you know that I am very fickle when it comes to instagram. Truth is, I love the gram, I love the gram, I'm addicted to it, I know I am (yo gotti)I noticed some time ago that being on instagram not only distracts me from more important things but it causes me to lose track of time by being on it so much. Especially at night when I should be resting; I can easily spend three unplanned hours on instagram.

  2. Lmao!!! You are nuts Shana!!! I am not quite sure what you mean by me having resources not to have to focus on discipline. Can you elaborate? And I share a need for order in regard to how much time I spend on the Gram. Why do you think it is so "addictive" am So fascinated with watching other people live their lives that I neglect to live my own. It is the perfect distraction.

  3. You are blessed enough to do what you want when you want for the most part, or at least is seems that way from the outside looking in. I think it's so addictive, for me, because it's suspenseful. It's hard to tell fact from fiction so you stay tuned hoping to really capture who the person is. Another reason I like it is because watching people display so much talent is great. You can't help but secretly wish them success.

  4. Evening Ladies. So, I didn't think you were asking those questions to actually be answered about yourself, but in all honesty Jennifer, I think that you demonstrate a discipline on a consistent basis. One of the things that you have said about discipline which I agree with, is being unwavering in decisions. Certainly not all decisions are easy to make, but I will say you act with every decision, regardless of the circumstance, because you understand it is a decision that needs to be made. Though discipline is not always about physical action. It's about being humbled as well. I truly believe that one has to humble themselves in order to identify the things that they need discipline for. This, I believe is more important than the discipline itself.

    1. Good morning ladies. Jade, you are correct about a couple things. First, I was not asking for anyone's personal opinion about how disciplined I was. I was asking the questions merely for reflection. I apologize if it seemed as though I was asking for your assessment of me. The second thing I think you were spot on about was the relationship between humility and discipline. I definitely believe that you have to humble yourself before you can truly access what needs order in your life. Thank you, Jade!

  5. Some of the things that require discipline in my personal life, is the discipline to not worry/anxiety. If I have made the decision to fully trust God (which I have) then I need to have the discipline and patience (as Mom has mentioned) to do so, and not out of my own fear to solve problems.

  6. Too me, discipline means consistency. You have to remain focused on the task at hand you are trying to achieve.

    1. Consistency is a very good correlation to discipline as well, Val. I think those two go hand in hand.
